This photo isn&#8217;t just an observation; it\u2019s a critical piece of surveillance data.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"wd-69ef51a109560\" class=\"wd-text-block wd-wpb reset-last-child wd-rs-69ef51a109560 text-left wd-fontsize-m \">\n\t\t\t<h3 data-path-to-node=\"17\">Tracing the Informal Manifest<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18\">Following the surveillance trail from Image 2, we\u2019ve traced payments for these informal &#8220;services&#8221; to Hawala (informal money transfer) networks operating out of Kenya and Dubai. The investigation reveals that this skimming operation, which costs legitimate commerce up to $5 million USD annually, is enabled by the lack of centralized fiscal data. We\u2019re working with international maritime authorities to share our data, but the ultimate fix must come from the Somali government, which needs to digitalize and centralize its customs and fiscal systems to eliminate these shadow ports.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"19\">Charting a Course to Transparency<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"20\">Somalia is at a crossroads. While the waters look calm, a complex, illicit economy thrives beneath the surface. This investigation proves that what looks like a simple line of fishing boats is actually a network of financial graft. Only by mapping these informal routes can we chart a truly transparent course for Somalia&#8217;s economic future.
