Gershom Otachi Bw’Omanwa is a seasoned legal practitioner with 35 years of distinguished experience in litigation, arbitration, and public law. As the Senior Partner and Founder of Ogetto Otachi & Co Advocates, he has built a reputation for legal excellence, strategic insight, and principled leadership—both in Kenya and on the international stage.

Mr. Otachi holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He was admitted to the Kenyan Bar in 1990 and continues to serve as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

Since founding the firm in 2007, Mr. Otachi has contributed to its evolution into a respected legal powerhouse, handling complex commercial, constitutional, and administrative law matters. His clientele includes leading corporations, government agencies, and high-profile individuals.

His international legal engagements include: Defence Attorney, United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and Defence Counsel, International Criminal Court (ICC), The Hague.

Locally, Mr. Otachi’s notable representations include: Successfully defending the Kenya Revenue Authority in a Kshs. 2.5 billion tax appeal before the Court of Appeal (2018); Representing the Energy Regulatory Commission in a landmark petroleum tender dispute (2018); Securing a Kshs. 151 million arbitral award for Savings Tea Brokers Ltd against the Kenya Tea Development Agency; Defending Kenya Power and Lighting Company in a judicial review over a multibillion-shilling prepayment meters’ tender dispute (2017) and Representing the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority at the Saitoti Inquiry into the 2012 helicopter crash.

Mr. Otachi’s commitment to public service is reflected in his leadership across key national institutions and are demonstrated by his leadership as follows: Chairman, National Land Commission (2019–2025); Chairman, Geothermal Development Company (2015–2019) and Chairman, Policy Holders’ Compensation Fund (2014–2015). His tenure in these roles has been marked by integrity, reform, and strategic governance.

Mr. Otachi is an active member of the following prestigious legal bodies; the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), the East African Law Society (EALS); the International Commission of Jurists (Kenya Chapter), the International Criminal Bar (ICB), the International Association of Defence Lawyers (IADL) and the Association of Defence Lawyers at the UN-ICTR (ADAD) – where he serve as the Vice Chairman.

Mr. Otachi is proficient in English, Kiswahili and French (Working Knowledge).
