Mr. Kennedy Ogeto is a respected Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 34 years of distinguished legal service across public institutions and private sector practice. He is the founder and currently a consultant at Ogetto, Otachi & Co Advocates. He served as the Solicitor General of the Republic of Kenya from 2018 to 2023.
Mr. Ogeto holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degrees from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, and is a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K). He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), United Kingdom.
He currently serves as Legal Advisor in the Executive Office of the President of Kenya, where he provides strategic counsel on governance management and intergovernmental matters.
Mr. Ogeto’s career is defined by legal excellence, institutional reform, and international impact. Under public service leadership, he has served as the Solicitor General and led transformative reforms in Kenya’s legal infrastructure, including digitization of business registration services, expansion of State Counsel offices, and enhanced audit compliance. With regard to private practice growth, his leadership has seen Ogetto Otachi & Co Advocates become a trusted name in litigation, arbitration, and legal advisory services.
In the international realm and representation: Mr. Ogeto has appeared before major international courts, including: United Nations International Criminal Court for Rwanda- UN-ICTR – Defence Counsel, Military I Trial (1996–2010); United Nations Special Court for Sierra Leone (Sierra Leone) – Defense Counsel, Revolutionary United Front case (2007–2010); International Criminal Court – ICC (The Hague) – Represented senior Kenyan political leaders and public service officials (2010–2015).
In the BBI Constitutional Amendment Cases Mr. Ogeto was Lead Counsel for the Government of Kenya before the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. He also coordinated Kenya’s legal teams in five major international arbitration victories, reinforcing the country’s global legal standing.
In the Court of Appeal (London) Mr. Ogeto together with Mr. Mohammed Nyaoga SC, were instructing counsel on behalf of H.E. President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique in the USD 2 billion claim against Mozambique (2024). The London Court of Appeal ruled in favor of President Nyusi based on sovereign immunity.
Regionally, Mr. Ogeto has appeared as Counsel before the East Africa Court of Justice.
Mr. Ogeto has also been granted Special Permission to appear before the Municipal Courts of Rwanda to represent a high profile American citizen Prof. Peter Erlinder charged by the Rwandan government for the crime of genocide denial.
Mr. Ogeto has held other key public sector governance roles, including: Chairman, Witness Protection Agency and Chairman, Anti-Money Laundering Advisory Board. He has also served as a Board Member, Kenya Ports Authority and Ecobank Kenya
In recognition of his service, Mr. Ogeto has received two of Kenya’s highest national honours: Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) and Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS)
He is an active member of: Law Society of Kenya (LSK), East African Law Society (EALS), International Criminal Bar (ICB), Association of Defence Attorneys at the UN-ICTR (ADAD) and the International Criminal Law Network
